Hi,I urgently need an exotic vet in Surrey for my guinea pig. She has fluid in one lung, and the current vet is unsure of what to do. They suggested euthanasia, but I’m looking for someone with experience in treating guinea pigs. Please let me know if you have any recommendations.Thank you.

Thank you. I took her to a vet from the list you provided. They are very kind, but unfortunately, they don't know how to proceed with her condition.

So is it a URI? This is usually dealt with by antibiotics and pain medication.

Or do they think it’s their heart causing the fluid? In this case there are medications for that too. I’ve not had to deal with this so I’m not sure what they are.

Edit - Frusol is the medication used for fluid on the lungs.

Good luck I hope you can find a knowledgeable vet soon.

She is currently on Frusol 0.1 ml twice a day and another antibiotic. They didn't diagnose it as a URI. The x-ray showed her lungs are full of liquid, but her heart is completely fine. Due to the fluid, she's been breathing heavily, almost like panting.

Hopefully the meds will sort it out and she’s soon on the mend.

Thank you. Please send healing prayers for her her name is Mojo.
Additionally, could you advise on any antibiotics I might ask for from the vet?

Sending healing vibes to Mojo. ❤️

Sorry I don’t have any antibiotic recommendations. It’s best to talk to your vet.

Sending healing vibes to Mojo and hugs to you. I hope she gets better 🫂

CJ hall if they are taking in patients is a specialist exotic practise, Goddard in Ewell but only Anne not Ellie! Kriek and Gibson (down the road from Goddard) but we went last week and Jonny the GP vet was on holiday so I’m not sure if he is back.

There is also an exotic vets is Horsham again I think you need a referral for them and I can’t remember the name a friend uses them

Thank you so much. I’m going to check with Goddard, as it is closer to my house. The other options are quite far, and I don’t want to tire her out with travel.

I just contacted Goddard and Kriekand Gibson. they all have experience with exotics, they don't have guinea pig experts. They all recommended that I go to CJ Hall Veterinary Surgeons.

Here’s a quick update on Mojo: With the medication from the vet, her breathing has improved and seems quite normal now. I haven’t found an exotic vet yet, but the vet I usually see will check her again on Thursday. I’ll contact Guildford vets tomorrow. Please continue to pray for Mojo’s full recovery. Thank you all for your support.

Hi, I’ve booked an appointment with Small World Vet Centre at 32 Station Road, Liphook, Hampshire GU30 7DR. Mojo hasn’t fully improved and was quite inactive this morning. Do you know anything about this vet practice? Please keep her in your thoughts and pray for her speedy recovery.

I hope this vet will get to the bottom of the problem and that Mojo will soon improve with the right treatment. Please let us know how she is?

Hopefully the vet that you have now booked in has been able to help. In case useful for you or in the future, when my vets want a second opinion on GP issues they have phoned the RVC for advice. I'm not sure if there is some sort of official vet helpline or something but might be worth suggesting as the RVC obviously has exotics specialists etc.

Thank you for the advice. I took Mojo to Small World Vet Centre GU30 7DR. They have specialists in guinea pigs, rabbits, and other exotic animals. The vet examined Mojo thoroughly and noted that her heartbeats are unusual, with a pattern of lub-lub-lub instead of the normal lub-dub. She suspects an underlying heart condition and has scheduled an X-ray, ultrasound, and blood test for Monday. She also advised stopping the current antibiotics.

Please keep praying for her, and let’s hope there are no underlying heart issues.
