Hi,
I foster sometimes for our local dog rescue, and they occasionally take guinea pigs out of bad situations when they remove dogs, I have been asked to help, now my question is I have a 5ft x 2ft thistle hall hutch, a double, now if I split the hutch into two, and put sows in the top of the hutch, and boars below would this make the boars fight , I also have my 4 sows which live in my shed but they are in their run on the lawn when it is nice, I hav`nt kept boars and sows before only had sows..
Was worried that taking boars with me having sows would make them fight..
any advice would be greatly appreciated..:)

I take in males and females. If I need to house them close to each other I always have the males at the top - so that no bedding with female scent can fall into the boys cage. I rarely have bonded boys fall out once they come into rescue.

The one thing I would say is to handle the boys first so that they don't smell the girls on you. Move the run to a different area after girls have been in it so that the boys are on a fresg area - you can get antibac sprays that will help mask the scent on the run itself. Ideally have two runs so you don't have to worry about moving it and covering the scent. Space the runs a good distance apart too so the boys aren't going nuts trying to get the attention of the girls.

Thank you for your help, useful advice about the boys on the top, I have two runs, so am hopeing to help just wanted to be sure first, thanks again.x:)p

I have sows living above my boars approx. 18 " above in solid pens and have never encountered a problem. I was obsessive before I got them home and dabbed Eucalyptus oil everywhere on the base of their pen but the boys are still oblivious to the babes upstairs.
As Suzygpr says though, I always see to my four boys before the girls and a good handwash then handgel applied before I touch them.
Have put a pic for you, the boys live downstairs and the girlies have the upper level.

:red Thank you - my OH designed and built it (he's a builder and very imaginative) Started off a basic c & c but ended up as a beach theme hut.
The piggies love it (we quite like it too :(|))
