hiya, i started to notice my piggy wasn’t eating as much as he used to or pooing as much and it looks as if he’s been eating very little hay or none at all and there just seems to be like liquid poo coming out of his bum, i cleaned it up and then 2 mins later it was there again. he’s also starting to lose weight, any help is appreciated

Sorry to hear your piggie isn’t well, I’d say get your boy to the vets, are you able to syringe feed him until you get him to the vets? Good luck 🤞

Is this same pig that was having poo issues on an older thread of yours?

How old is your boy ? How long have you had him?

yes, he was pooing in big hard clumps however now it’s just watery, will have to take him back to vets as they didn’t help him before

Hi
Please see a vet as soon as possible. Liquid diarrhea counts as an emergency because of the risk of dehydration; your piggy may need subcutaneous fluids.
Stop all fresh food and step in with syringe feeding support now. You can use mushed up pellets as an emergency improvisation.

Has your piggy been on the lawn without careful preparation to get the gut microbiome used to fresh grass by any chance? It is a common mistake at this time of year that can easily cause digestive problems.

he has actually been on the grass these last few days and then coming in at night, could this be why it’s happening?

If you’ve put him on the grass for too long without careful gradual preparation then it can cause these kinds of problems. They need to be introduced to grass very slowly after every winter - only short sessions of a few minutes on the grass at a time, and slowly built up by a 15 minutes each week over a few weeks.

Please do see a vet this evening for the diarrhoea

Hope the emergency vet is more helpful.

Yes - and sadly in some cases it can have serious consequences; especially if you do not prepare the gut and don't harden them off gradually; especially as the nights are still cool/close to freezing. :(
We wouldn't have a specific guide with all the tips on how to avoid upsetting and expensive experiences like yours and have also included them in our new owners's collection and food guides. A new cold weather care, which also deals with the transition phase is currently in preparation.
Unfortunately, we can only help those piggies get the necessary medical care and home support feeding care where owner find us when they do have problems.
Getting Started - Essential Information for New Owners
Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

PLEASE read the links in our posts; they contain all the practical tips and helpful information that you need to be in with a chance to get your poorly piggy through this.
We cannot repeat them in full length in every single post, seeing that we are doing this for free in our own free time on top of a job, a personal life and of course our very own guinea pigs. The guides are very step by step and have been specifically written for new owners without any experience; they are as clear and easy to follow as we can make them. They answer all the little questions that come up, including pictures and videos where appropriate. It takes several days to write each guide and to make sure that they hold up in every detail and aspect. ;)

All the best with your piggy. I hope he can be seen soon and sorted out.

I hope your piggy is ok. Did you manage to take him to the vets?
