Hi guys! I’m having to keep my guinea pigs outside this winter as there is absolutely no space for them to be inside unfortunately:( otherwise they definitely would be.
I have brought some insulation to put inside the cage, they already have a waterproof cover but I’m thinking of getting another one and something else to put in between that to give more insulation.

I was planning to get heat pads but I have no microwave! Is there anything similar that would be okay / safe for them to have to keep them warm?

Thank you in advance :)

Is there an outside shed or garage that you could move their hutch into?
I know some members have put duvets around the hutch under the waterproofing.
You could make snuggly beds from small upturned cardboard boxes stuffed with hay -cardboard and hay are good insulators but you will need to check and remove damp hay and cardboard regularly. @Lady Kelly ’s husband built a wooden box that fitted with her hutch that kept her piggies warm. I will see if I can find more details and link you to the thread.

Here are some threads with information you may find helpful

Is there any way you can buy a cheap microwave? Mine was £20 from a supermarket and literally only used in winter to do the piggies heat pads!
Otherwise, lots of hay in the whole hutch, hay in hides, lots of insulation on the hutches - the old duvets/sleeping bags/blankets under the waterproof hutch cover

I keep my piggies in an insulated shed, Lots of hay in the cages, hides stuffed with hay etc etc but in all honesty, the heat pads make a huge difference when they have a warm hide to snuggle into

That hay box was amazing, I remember it so clearly.

Have you tried places like Freecycle, or Facebook marketplace/groups? We have many gifting Facebook groups in Leicester and you may be able to pick up old but functional microwave for free. Charity shops is another good one where they can be picked up cheaply
