Alright, so my gf and I went to a person that had two young female guinea pigs. About....5 mths old when we got.

They are sisters...and have been fine, no rough housing what so ever.

3 weeks later, and the one was HUGE, found out shes pregnant...had to have happened before we got them.

She gave birth to 5 cute little pups last night and now the "sister" of the mother goes around nipping the babies often or shoving them outta the way and even using them as if they were a ladder to crawl over without any sense of caring for their safety.

Kinda worried cause I REFUSE to let one of these little pups not get the chance to live its life cause I was naive to the true facts.

Any advice whatsoever would help. Thanks

Please separate the 'aunt' of the babies - divide the cage if possible so that she still can see and chat to the other but cannot harm the babies. Double checking the sex of the aunt would be wise as not only are pregnant petshop pigs common, so is mis-sexing those that are sold.

This link has lots of good advice and further links on mums and babies, hopefully you will find it helpful. Please pay close attention to the diet section and sexing, as males will need to be separated on day 21 if they weigh 250g or more.

Thanks. I have been reading religiously for about ...24 hrs on everything i could find in regards to two females that are 6 months old, one gives birth to 5 pups and now the other female is being a stroke cause its headbutting pups into walls, nipping quite often and doing so turning kick to them. I got the general idea that it is either going to be dangerous or this "boss" female who is trying to show shes the dominant one is being a tad extreme. I feel bad when i seperate them cause first time i did so the mother didnt really bother to go check up on the segregated one....then i woke up this morning, tried to mix them again and the MOTHER actually went over to the "bully" and then the teeth chattering started so i segregated again...now the mother is trying to get to the other one.

Very strange learning how they socialize and their personalites, but quite entertaining.
