My guinea pig Cappuccino is a wee 10 month old sow who's been to the vets twice now over a snuffly sound coming from her nose. It can sound quite dramatic. Her nose started off sounding like it pops bubbles ever since I got her back in February this year. She doesn't have any nasal discharge and both times, the vet has confirmed her lungs are all clear and her heart is strong and healthy.

The episodes are happening more frequently at the moment (every few days) and my vet has put her on a 7 day course of Co-Trimoxazole to see if this helps clear it. He's confident it is a URI but suspects she has a rare sinus issue (bacteria up her nose which is hard to sample) due to the fact it only happens every now and then. He reckons she might need a nebuliser in future to manage this condition over the course of her life time.

I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences of nebulisation and their stories if you have piggies with a similar condition as this is completely new territory for me.

I've never had to nebulise a pig luckily but we did with some of our rats, which I suppose is somewhat similar!
They quite happily sat in their "nebulisation chamber" aka a carrier wrapped in a towel with a snack whilst treatment took place.
Did the vet say whether it would be a mask, or perhaps a but like my ratty's setup?

Nope we've not discussed what it will involve yet as we're waiting to see if the antibiotic treatment helps first.

That actually doesn't sound like too stressful an experience for your rats despite the ominous sounding chamber! 😅 Hope it's helping them feel better

Ahaha no they seemed to quite enjoy it... apart from being a bit damp afterwards! 😂
It did seem to help them a little, they both had something called mycoplasma which is super common in rats and causes respiratory issues. There's no cure but nebulising helped to clear their tubes as it were.
This was a couple of years ago now but I still miss having ratties 😕 They just don't live very long and are so probe to lots of health issues.
I hope the nebulising works for your piggy if you end up needing it! ❤️
That's the two fat chunkers, Roger and Dave. Found as strays in someone's garden, they were around 2 year old when we got them.

Roger and Dave are so cute 😍 It's good you could manage their condition from home and keep them happy and comfortable. I'm hoping the same for Cino if I have to get her a nebuliser.
Do you have piggies instead of rats now? To be honest, I've found the same experience with guinea pigs (prone to illness & don't live as long as other animals).
They are so worth it though despite the fact I basically work to afford their vet bills at the mo! 🤣
