Hi Everyone,
So today I was stroking my baby sow while she was in her comfy tube I made her, she was completely fine and then next thing I know she lunged out and bit me!
It didn't pierce the skin or even hurt, but it sure shocked me, she's so sweet natured. Is this normal? was I doing something wrong?
Is there anyway I can discipline her but in a nice way?
I'm really upset I thought we had a 'moment' last night where I was holding her and for the first time she started to lick my hand and nibble it, I was so happy and now I'm worried I have done something wrong to make her turn so quickly.
Thanks,
Jess.

how old is she...?
i found with thorn who was a baby i was hand rearing i had awful trouble with him biting me... and i got him (mostly) out of it by everytime he did it i'd out him in his cage and ignore him for a little while.... BUT... that was becuase he wanted to be held all the time...
if shes doing it because she dont want to be held then i know some people wrap them in a towel and hold them for a few mins and then pop them back in the cage...
although... my girls nip me when they want to be put back in the cage for a wee... :))
sorry thats not very useful...:)

You might want to be wary the next time she tries to lick or nibble you. My pig Sundae does this... at first, it's so sweet, all those little piggie kisses... then if you don't pull away she decides you might be food and tries to take a chunk out of you! I don't think it's hostility per se... in Sundae's case I think it's just a progression of exploring. She does it most often when I'm either sweaty or wearing some kind of lotion- presumably those make me taste more appealing to a guinea pig! So I generally try to move my hand/arm away once she starts her licking/nibbling routine... if I interrupt her early, it doesn't progress to her trying to eat me!

Thank you both, that was really helpful! I'll try pulling away if she starts nibbling to vigorously, i had her out today and all she did was lick, I'm hoping it might be like you say, just a new scent/taste on my hands.
Thank you both so much. x
