Fugly has one thumb nail that has now started to curl instead of growing straight, I trim his nails every other week as they grow quickly so this has only happened in the last week, the problem is the quick appears to be right up to the point where the nail starts to curl.

I know this normally happens with older pigs but Fugly is only 18 months old.

Any advice on how I can keep this under control, I know people put bricks under water bottle to keep nails worn down, but Fugly is a nutter he has run of lounge and hallway and still manages to popcorn into wall so I am terrified he will hurt himself on the brick when I am out.

Cutting little and often is supposed to cause quick to retract so do I need to cut more than every other week?

The stange thing is it is only the one nail that has been affected.

I would be grateful for any advice

I could try although it will be WW3 and I think Fugly would win :)):))

My main concern is the quick is right where the curl begins so I cant get the nail far enough back to give it a chance to straighten again.

Do you just file Sunshine?

I do and it helps a little but we do battle! :) Twinkle is the same as well but he always wins he kicks me! :o

one of my sows has this problem - i do try and keep her nails down - i have tried filing them down, but it never seems to work - Sunshine, do you use a proper filer, like for us humans?
