sometimes they will curl under or out, this can hamper them walking and if its really bad they can curl under and pierce their paw pads...not nice.....you need to ideally do them every few weeks when they get long.
Be very careful not to cut the 'quick' though as they bleed quite a lot if you do. It's easier to see the 'quick' in guinea pigs that have white or paler nails - its the pink bit you can see inside the nail. I cut one of my piggies nails yesterday. I got some nail clippers from pets at home and they are really easy to use. O0
if you do cut the quick( blood line) which is easy to do with wiggly piggies just put some corn flour on it and that will stop the bleeding. works a treat i used it for piggies, bunnies, cats and dogs claws, also when in winter with dogs you can put corn flour into their coats and brush it in. this is known in australia as a dry bath. looked funny on one of our dogs as she was black but it did work and the dogs smelt good O0 corn flour is amazing and i always have some handy O0 good luck with the claw cutting you may need a bright light to see the claws and have someone hold the piggy for you O0 many hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
I have to say that luckily my girls nails haven't needed to be cut yet. This is because their run is on concrete so it keeps their nails down. However, I imagine that when the winter is here, i'll be taking them to the vets for a nail trim
