In May I am leaving for 2 months and heading to the States. I am leaving my guinea pigs here with someone I know and trust.
I am educating her about guinea pigs and I will leave a manual type thing with information about their care behind. She will live
in the house so they will always have people around. I have thought about all the details, except for one. Nail trimming.
I am not sure if she knows or will want to trim their nails, it is a very hard job! I was thinking that maybe there is a material I could
put in their cage to file their nails down, could that work? If so, what material would it be? Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

@Eva121 You could try putting stones underneath their water bottles so they can wear down their front nails. I find those to be the more difficult to cut..

You can take them to the vet to cut them too. Usually a vet nurse will do it so it shouldn't be too expensive.

You can have her take them to a vet. To be honest, if I cut my piggies nails short, I usually don’t have to trim for obo 2 months so she should only have to do something about the nails once...

thanks for all the replies!
I was also thinking about bringing them to the vet for a trim but after ringing the vet up she said she had never cut a guinea pigs nails!
Plus, the vet office is semi outside and not the most hygienic area so I worry that they will get mites, or some infection from it.
Afterwards I talked to my usual vet who helps with the pigs but she needs to close for the Summer, due to family reasons. :///
But, I will keep looking around, thanks!
The stones are a good idea~
