Just about to attempt to cut the guinea nails (taken them to the vets each time before this). Wish us luck šŸ¤žšŸ˜«

Good luck! Rosie always throws a fit and we have a massive battle over the nail cutters, but giving her a piece of lettuce helps calm her down c:

Two done now but that was the single most scary experience on my life ( and Iā€™ve given birth to twins!) I was so worried about hurting them, just took the ends off for now and will do it again in a few weeks so they get use to me holding them x

Well done. The first time is definitely the most nerve wracking. But if you can get the piggies used to it and your nerves get used to it you will save yourself a fortune by doing it yourself. We tend to do all of ours in one go - the OH holds them and I do the clipping. It still fills us with a hint of dread.

We ended up with my husband holding them and me trimming as they were squirming quite a lot. One was definitely calmer than the other but my nerves didnā€™t hold up well. Neither of them were as calm as the guinea pigs you see in the ā€œhow to trim nailsā€ you tube videos! Maybe next time Iā€™ll take a video to show what reality is like šŸ¤£

All is well, they were rewarded with some gem lettuce and I did a full clean of their shed so they are happy as can be now. Not sure I cut enough off their nails and we did notice mittens has a bit of a red foot so weā€™re booked into the vets to get him checked out but he is running around quite happy. Best to get him checked though :-)

Try to use our piggy whispering tips and also to distract them with some of their favourite herbs or veg. Piggies don't multitask when they are absorbed in chewing away.

A lot of it is sheer practice and confidence, which will transmit to your piggies. It is something that comes with time. Most of us find the first nail cut daunting. Don't approach it with the intent of getting all nails done, just do as many as you can and rather take it slowly than push through too hard. The first nail clip should only take the sharp baby tips off once the nails start growing out.

Not right happy with me as they wait to go into the vets šŸ˜«
