Hello, I'm a new guinea pig owner and I bought year-old guinea pigs off Kijiji. When I got them, they were not given any hay and their nails were very long. I have tried to clip them but the quick of the nails has grown so much that one of my boy's nails bled once I cut it (he has black nails and it is nearly impossible to see the quick). I looked at one of the white nails and saw that the quick has grown to more than three-quarters of their nails. Any ideas for what to do? Maybe try to file them instead of clipping? Or leave them the length that they are?

Just trim off what u can and over time you’ll find the quick will retract. If it’s easier to file so u don’t cause them to bleed than perhaps do that until the quick has moved backward a little bit :)
