Cookie,Biscuit&Taz

?/ Hi it's me again, Cookie,Biscuit&Taz. As some of you may know, My darling Cookie Monster is not very well at the moment. We originally thought she had "over night paralysis" but we don't think it is anymore. The point is she can walk but chooses not to. We have also found lumps under her chin,on her nipple, behind her front and back legs and behind her ear. Could it be cancer??8...8...:(:( Somebody please help me! It would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Has she been to a vet? Lumps can be a number of things really. :)

Yes this needs to be seen by a vet sounds weird and i have never heard of anything like this on a guinea pig.
Get your pig to a vet as soon as possible.
Good luck

Anna x

How old is your piggie? My piggie was covered in lumps and bumps towards the end of her life which were just fatty lumps. Try not to worry too much as some lumps are not dangerous to a piggie's life. Could it be that start of arthritis?

Get this piggy to a avet asap. This sounds like a glandular disease and is a medical emergency.

Thanks for all these replies. She has been to the vet twice because she wasn't walking and the vet said she had swollen limphnodes. Cookie is 3 and a half years old. We have made he an appointement to see the vet again on monday. And may I ask, what is glandlular disease? Thanks you've all been a great help.

Sorry not familiar with this. Hope the visit to the vets is helpful and your piggie is better soon x

Went to the vets today.............Cookie, has cancer. She has a month or so to live.

So sorry to hear this...but is your vet sure? what tests did he do? :(

Hi everyone, Just to let you know. I said that yesterday I went to the vets and they said Cookie had cancer, but today has miracuosly improved! She walked all he way from inside the garage to her hutch (about 5-10 metres) without being promted what so ever! It was proper walking too! Not bunny hopping like she used to. I know they can have up days and down days but everyday, since today has been a bad day!

Keep up with Cookie's progress here.

I hope your piggie is improving. I know that vets can get things wrong sometimes because I took my sow to a vet who said she would live more than one week and I should put her to sleep. I didn't and nursed her at home and she lived another six months with me pain free. Fingers crossed that things continue to improve :)

Well that is good news...you know, if it were me, I would be getting a second opinion. It could be perfectly treatable. Cancer can usually only be properly diagnosed through certain tests such as bloods or biopsy or during exploratory surgery or if it is so far along that its obvious :{

Sorry to hear about the vet's thoughts on Cookie Monster but really pleased to hear then that she seems to have improved.

Sending her lots of hugs and kisses that she will continue to get better xx

sending cookie lots of love and healing vibes and got everything crossed for a wrong diagnosis from the vet, hope cookie continues to improve xoxo

Hi everyone, sorry to say but Cookie is being put to sleep tomorrow. Due to the tumors behind her eyes and the one under her chin her eyes are being pushed further and further out of their sockets. It's the kindest thing.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Yes, I do think that is the kindest thing to do given the circumstances. x

I am so sorry to hear this.Did the vet do a biopsy? to be sure?.Lympthadenopathy is not alaways caused by cancer,it can be a bacterial infection which can be treated with an antibiotic such as cephalexin.

I'm so sorry she doesn't appear to be doing better. As others have said, if you are not sure, please get a 2nd opinion, but will keep fingers crossed for you.

I'm sorry to hear that your piggie has to be put to sleep. This is a very hard decision for anybody to make and I'm sure you know what the best thing to do is. We are all here for you xx

Cookie was put to sleep today, it was so horrible, but it was the kindest thing to do. Thank you all.
