Hey everybody, I rarely make posts on this unless its really important or to query about something but a shock kind of hit me this morning, I just came home from doing some errands and went to the fridge to get some Nom noms for the noisy wigglets, much to my suprise the house was silent, I went upstairs to check on them, Little Oscar my oldest at 3 was going nuts running around in circles (which is normal for him) I thought yeah he's fine he's just going crazy to see me, but when I peered to check Mello and Cookie (both 8 monthes old) It was just Mello on his own chuttering around in on his own, which sent up a massive red flag for me because that little fella's on top of his pigloo singing by now, I lifted the house up and His cage mate Cookie is cold and lifeless...

I don't know what to say except he was happy scurrying around yesterday, at like 8pm last night he was running around the living room attacking feet (something no scholar could explain in better detail) I put him home with his friend and gave them a handful of spinach, next morning I left at half 9 to go the Citizens office and when I get back I find him passed on.

To be honest I don't know what to say to my little niece as she loves her guinea wigglets and only 9 monthes ago she lost her little guy Snowy to a weak heart, As far as I know when I found him it looks as though he passed away in the night, I just wanted to post here to ask if anyone else is had to deal with a random death like this, because it seems like death always has a reason :( He hasn't showed signs of being off his food or anything and I even took him the vet 3 weeks before to get Oscar's abscess drained as well as get them all a check up, it just seems weird and i'm sad knowing how devastated my niece will be. :(

Last things I saw on him before he was buried was missing hair on his stomach and flattening, although its strange because we do feed them and he has been eating, kind of worried for his cage mates health.

I am very sorry! Finding a piggy unexpectedly in its forever sleep is always a huge shock. Sadly, heart attackes and strokes can happen at any age, and they often happen right of the blue. Some guinea pigs sadly live with a timb bomb in their hearts that can go off at any moment, even very young ones. There is unfortunately nothing you can do. :(

The missing hair could be due to Oscar trying to wake him up.

Thanks for getting back to me, he had a good time and certainly ate his weight in food, will be sad to no longer hearing their insane singing you sort of miss it after a while, his little mates quiet now being on his own it might be time to try and bond him with Oscar. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's such a shock to lose a young piggie like that! Unfortunately, you may never know exactly what happened. My understanding is that most sudden deaths in young pigs are due to an inborn heart problem or a sudden stroke, aneurysm, or other vascular complication- it's a weakness they were born with and not something that you could have prevented. ((HUGS)) to you, and so sorry you will have to give your niece bad news. It's so hard to see children hurting when a loved pet passes away. I honestly think that seeing my kids grieve was worse than grieving myself when we lost a beloved piggie last year.

I am so sorry for your loss, it is an awful shock to lose them so suddenly and without warning. Huge hugs

Sleep well little one

RIP Cookie

Hi i'm back, unfortunately my week just gets worse and worse, its been 2 days since we lost our Cookie and now his cage mate Mello has also passed away, the only good side is we managed to get him to the vet...however he was dying and has now been to sleep, 11pm in my Pyjamas at the vet 2 hours away from my place, to be honest at this point i'm not telling my niece but I was informed by the vet its most likely a virus or infection, to be honest i'd say depression but I don't know at this point, Oscar's all on his own now and i've disinfected all the cages, bathed him, and i'm taking him to the PDSA first thing tomorrow morning, its kind of getting ridiculous and has to be an infection which is why i'm worried about my eldests health.

Don't try to rule out things because it just leaves you more worried, as far I know he's sleeping in my room bouncing with my life but he has me concerned still as both other guinea's where both fine before they passed, PLEASE take any pets to vet if they seem even slightly different the usual, you never know what can mean the difference between life and death. RIP Cookie 05/01/15 & Mello 09/01/15, my weeks been garbage hope everyone else's is better.

Ohh I'm so sorry. Thats heartbreaking to read. RIP to both Cookie and Mello.
I hope Oscar will be safe. *hugs to you both*
