I took my dog for an hours walk and come home to find my 2 unneutered boys in the pen with my 3 sows and neutered boar. When I walked into the room all 3 boars looked like they were going for each other, caroline had fur in his mouth and by the squeal it sounded like it had come from his brother Bonnie (my daughter named them....Vampire Daires characters which she had run out of decent boys names!) and my older boar Nicklaus was teeth chattering at them and was about to chase the boys (they all stopped when I walked into the room). I put the boys back in their enclosure, disconnected it from the other enclosure and made the grids higher.
I left the room for a couple of minutes to get something and when I came back Caroline and Bonnie were actually jumping and by the looks of it were attacking each other. I have separated them for now but will it be worth letting them calm down then try to reintroduce them in a few hours or should I keep them separate permanently now (there has been a lot of dominance behaviours which looked like it was getting worse before this incident).

I will be keeping an eye on all 3 sows now as like I said I was gone an hour so who knows what could of happened in that time 😲 but I'm hoping for no surprises in Jan/Feb 🤞

On another note I thought bonding was going really well yesterday and last night so I cleaned Nicklaus and Hayley's enclosure and put the 2 new girls (Davina and Freya) in there with them but I've noticed a couple of times that Hayley wont let the girls into the kitchen area all the time, is this normal dominance behaviour or should I be prepared to put the 2 girls in their own enclosure? I'm already picking up more C&C grids tomorrow as I wanted to do some bits in my bunnies enclosure but I can work out a way to build up or use my desk but it's not a big desk....

When you bond new piggies, it takes two weeks for them to fully establish their relationship. If you only have one kitchen area, I personally would change that so there is hay available in multiple places (in as many places as you have piggies) so that this kind of hogging cannot go on - Hayley won't be able to guard all areas at once.

Definitely ensure any unneutered boars cages are fully secure - they can be very determined to get to sows. Keeping sows in the same room as a boar pair can impact on the boar pairs relationship - it can cause the to fight between themselves over the girls simply by smelling girls. This could potentially be why you were seeing their dominance getting worse before now. You'll need to make an assessment on whether the boar pair relationship is working. Its recommended that when keeping both sexes in the same room that they are kept in stacked cages with the sows at the bottom and a boar pair at the top so they cannot smell the sows.

Thank you, I'm in the process of adding another kitchen area as I thought of that after I posted but I'll also add a couple of extra hay racks as well. I've been scatter feeding the fesh veg and pellets on the fleece since the girls have gone in rather than scattering in just the kitchen.
I did find Hayley sleeping next Freya earlier and Davina made me laugh she was hiding from me as I was seeing if she'd take a romaine lettuce leaf from me but her hiding place was between a hooded snuggle bed and a box....her little white bum was sticking out between them 🤣 I just left the romaine near her and gave some to Nicklaus, she quickly grabbed it and dragged it into the box to eat it. I can't see you so you can't see me 😂
