So after much contemplation over whether boars or sows would be better for me, I finally decided on two females.

I just got them today and they're super scared and skittish right now, especially the short-haired girl. I guess this is something that will take time and patience, like with all animals. She goes berzerk if I do so much as put my hand in the cage.

They're still nameless. Any name suggestions!?

P.S. Don't worry about their bedding...I have layered tons of hay and some aspen shavings on top right after I snapped these pics :)

They are beautiful! You must be so happy! How old are they? Yes, they will be scared at the moment and you're right it does take a bit of time. Go to their cage and talk to them lots so they get used to your voice, try putting your hand in and stroking them (no quick movements though). Try and have them out for cuddles on your lap (put them on a towel or blanket so they can get comfy). They might not be so keen on you picking them up at the moment (some of my guineas still run when I try and pick them up even though they aren't really new anymore - I think this is an instinct thing to some piggies), but they will start to get used to you once they've been out a few times.

I think they deserve pretty girly names as they are such pretty pigs! I do like flower names for pretty piggies! Lucy and Poppy? Lily and Daisy?

They are lovely! It's nice you did research before you took the plunge! (And welcome :) )

Perhaps you could find you fave names and host a poll on the forum if you are undecided? :)

What a gorgeous pair of girlies! :smitten: All the best with them and O0 for finding names for them

Hi & welcome :)

They are beautiful little girls & I'm sure they won't take long to get used to you & their new home, especially as they have each other for companionship too. :smitten:

:smitten: They are very beautiful :smitten:

What about Milly and Muffin?

awww beutiful... you could call them rhubarb and custard! ;D ;D

oh wow super cute
is it me or do they look like they have satin in them?
mind you I haven't got my glasses on ;D
as for names, it takes me ages to name mine, I have to wait and see what their character is like first
anyway congrats you have 2 sweeties their :-* ;)

Helloooo and welcome!

what boooootiful little piggies. Ive said it before and I'll say it again... I LOVE GINGERY PIGGIES! Personally I like old fashioned names best - they always make me smile! Quite funny when they are called out at the vets too!  ;)

just quickly trying to think of some names.... ummm... hows about betty and wilma?! Betty is the one with black and wilma is of course the more gingery one! I love flowery names too. Rosie and poppy? Petal? Marigold?.... Quite like the name Penny as one is that kind of colour!

Good luck with finding names  O0  Youve got 2 little smashers there!

Aww they're so beautiful! How about ginger and cinnamon... or spice & Nutmeg? They look like spices to me! ^.^

Thanks for all the comments! :) I really love all the name suggestions.. now to sit down with my boyfriend and decide. Will keep you posted!

Nope, they're not satin. For some reason, my cropped pictures make all pet fur look shiny!

I read that it's essential to handle them a lot when they're still young, so they'll learn to tolerate it when they get older. I started trying today, but they are WAY too fast for me :( Is there an easy way to corner them and catch them or is it always going to be a chase around the cage? I don't want to freak them out so much. Also, when I pick the short-haired one up, she squirms like mad.. it's hard to hold on to her! Any ideas? Perhaps I should post all my questions in the other boards, too. Thanks!

Don't worry, they are fast but keep trying and you will get used to it. With some piggies it is a chase round the cage. My original two Poppy and Bella, Poppy always used to be a darling when I tried to get her out - no fuss or running, she was an angel. Bella on the other hand was the complete opposite, she would run and dash and I would find it impossible to catch her! When we first got her my boyfriend was the only one who could catch her. His method would be to try and gently shepherd her into a corner, then put one hand behind her bottom (ready to support it when lifting), the other hand positioned near her face/front paws - 9 times out of 10 she would realise what he was doing and put her front paws on to his hand and he would be able to "scoop" her out of the cage. Re the wriggling, one of my newish pigs was very like this when we first got him, i've never had a pig squirm so much. All you can do really, is hold on with a firm but gentle grip. Once she is out perhaps wrap her in a blanket or hold her on a towel/blanket, this will probably make her feel secure and help you hold on to her a bit better.

Don't give up, you will get there. I've only just started to really master getting Bella out myself.....but that is because I usually took the easy option before and said "Stewart get Bella out for me will you!"

Try putting a terracotta flower pot on its side in the corner, as your hand follows them mine jump into the pot every time and

haha! gotcha! ( Just make sure its big enough for them to get in but not heavy enough to flatten them)

they are adorable btw :smitten: :smitten:
