So my dad does handyman work for people as a job, and the person he's working for is clearing out a house, and he happens to have a trailer on him. So my dad texts me these photos to see what I think, and it turns out the guy had a full sized pretty much completely good shape hutch for free!

So, obviously I'm going to have to clean it out of previous scents, put my spare coroplast on the base, make sure the levels are sturdy, carpet/stabilize the ramps, and put chicken wire on the bottom half, but I mean like what a score! Literally two days ago I was researching hutches this size for 200+ dollars!
Oh and it's missing the main ramp so I'll have to build that too.

Here's another photo from another angle where you can see how large it is.

Gonna have some much fun fixing this sucker up! Can't wait to see my pigs in it. :)
Let me know what you guys think. Can't believe the guy was just giving it away!

How many pigs do you have and what are the dimensions of the hutch ? It is difficult to tell from a piccie! I put a false floor on mine too! It is a waterproof ply, floor insulation (covered in waterproof membrane) waterproof ply sarne and makes the hutch about 6" taller.

What animal was that for? It's a very strange set up. Was it for rats?

I love me a bargain, especially if it's a bit of a fixer-uppa. Having said that I have a half painted bed frame somewhere...

Oh @Betsy I'm not using it outdoors. I know, it's strange, but that's just how I wanna do it. I have 2 amazing boars, and the dimensions are :
For the inside closed off area, both layers I could make would be 2x4 feet plus the run on the bottom. Is that enough space for two boars?

@Cavy Kung-Fu I haven't a clue but all I know is it's free and very well constructed. It is strange, but I can't find it sold anywhere so I think it may be dicontinuef or hand built.
As you can see someone painted white on one leg of it and never finished! But it still looks great

Yea it looks hand made, it might have even been for birds maybe? I've just never seen a structure like it before! When do you get it home? :D

when measuring cage size , you can only take into account the dimension on one level -

Cage Size Guide

so, I'm afraid this hutch isn't big enough for guinea pigs :(

Rats outside? I’ guess it was probably built for ferrets/polecats with that strange setup and the fact it is outdoors.

Yea I thought maybe ferrets but thought I'd be too small? It's hard to tell from a pic!

It might be a smidge small for 2 boys? Generally the recommended flat area is about 2x5ft, is there a way to extend it at all? :)

There is nothing to say the old owner was well researched on cage sizes. My aunt once kept a pair of ferrets outside in a wooden house my uncle built for their children. Which sounds big but I assure you it was not much bigger inside than that hutch :yikes:

It looks like it could of been for chickens it’s just the opening that’s the size of chickens and mesh floor

Ok so apparently this was a ferret hutch and upon seeing I realized that it was much smaller than I anticipated! So instead I have picked out a very large entertainment center I will be turning into a hutch!
