I would like to show all of you my piggies' bedding. (I hope you can understand what I explain despite my grammar mistakes...)
Most of us have discovered the precious feature of the fleece when used as a pad; I see that people have sewn wonderful stuffed linen, amazing to my eyes and very comfortable for our piggies; but I see many owners have some issue with the smell, even after the laundry.
As I also use fleece and have no smell at all, I want to show you the way I arranged their cage considering that my piggies seem to enjoy their bedding as well (although it is not elegant..). This arrangement is also "free of charge", I mean you should only buy some piece of good fleece, nothing else.
This is how it looks in the morning, when my piggies are still relaxing under their houses:

(hay racks are made with two plastic cutlery drainers:D)

There is plenty of droppings all around, as it is 13 hours since when I have cleaned up their cage and put them to "sleep", but the fleece is dry. There is no smell at all (and my nose is sensitive).
I use my fleece as a normal linen, therefore it is not sewn with anything; its use is only for covering all the layers below, which are composed by newspapers and an old towel put there at the basis for keeping the floor soft and ticker.
The only layer which in the morning has got SOME wet spot is the one underneath and in contact with the fleece: I use those flyers you get at the supermarkets:

We have loads of them delivered at home everyday... and I take them also directly from the check-out.
Every day I change only the first pages wet, never more than 2-3 flyers (I have two piggies). The newspaper below them and the towel remain dry, in fact I have never changed them till now.

When I shake the fleece, all the dropping fall down very easily on the floor, also with the soiled hay and, only because I have the possibility, I hang it out in the sun for a while. In case of bad weather you can reuse it again or you can change it with a clean one.
I wash my fleece not more than once a week with a normal laundry, normal soap, 40°, spinning and no softener. And no vinegar, special soaps and other chemical products. Only a normal cheap washing. The fleece comes out from the machine with the scent of clean.:D
Therefore, although stuffed linens look amazing, I suggest also my simple procedure. You can also have 6-7 pieces of fleece, changing it once a day and washing them all together. I have only two pieces, they are enough considering that after a spinning they come out almost dry and after 5 minutes in the balcony they are ready to be reaused...
Anyway, as I also like changing the colours into the cage I have just bought two new pieces of fleece:

Each one cost 8€, made of the best quality fabric,100_6645.webp large enough for covering some cushion, too.:D
Months ago I bought also this little cushion at Ikea (1,30€ only!) and I used the stuff inside for making 3 little pillows my pigs love so much...

What a good idea. I may well try that when I have made their new larger cage. Our neighbour saves newspapers for us which is great.

Love those fleece patterns. Love those guinea pigs too!
