So we've had our two piggies for almost a year.

Archy is a big bruiser at 1.5kg and the dominant of the pair, often asserting his dominance over food, space etc. using his sheer size.

Percy is 1.2kg and a slighter build than Archy, he's a big moaner and often will whinge and slink away when Archy is being the boss. But a cutie and generally well natured.

But today, I was cleaning them out and Percy seemed really agitated. Now I've had to separate them for his own good because he won't stop trying to hump Archy, it's like he's possessed, he bit me when I had to step in for his own good.

Archy is extremely patient and tolerant tbh, he put up with the behavior for a few mins but bit back and threw Percy sprawling across the cage like a rag doll. But this didn't stop Percy one bit.

I've separated them in their enclosure with water and food but also had to cover one side as Percy is still full of rage and was biting and clawing at the bars incessantly. I feel bad because they do need each other but he won't stop. Archy also sounding upset now :(

Any ideas?

Hey, sorry to hear your going through this, you say you've had them a year are they both the same age?
It may be Percy is having a hormone spike. The only advise I can give is leave them seperated but still being able to see each other. I had to do this with two of my boars, AFter a few weeks, i did a reintroduction which didn't go well, so gave it more time and tried a few other things which didn't work. Waited longer and low and behold they are happy with each other again.
I assume they have a big enough cage and 2/3 of everything.
It is hard having to seperate them but the mental stimulus they need is not restricted to being with each other, being able to see and smell and talk through the bars is good for them too.

Hi! Please take the time to read this guide. It tells you all about teenage hormones. Even adult boars (or sows!) can suffer from occasional strong hormone spikes. these tend to thankfully die down again after a couple of mad days.

Please follow the tips in the guide when re-introducing your boars on neutral ground to prevent another bust-up.
