My skinny pig is 10 months old. He had an ear infection and strep throat the beginning of November and he was on an antibiotics for 2 weeks. He's eating, drinking water, chirping and seems like his old self but his head is still tilted and one eye is swollen or one eye is bigger than the other. Can someone help me, please. I'm waiting a week for his appointment check-up.

I live in a rural area and my local vet doesn't treat exotic pets so I rely on the closer bigger town which only had an opening next week. Is there anything I can do for him now?

Hi

It could be an abscess behind the eye (retrobulbar abscess) that this causing the eye being pushed out and the head tilt. Please try to have your piggy seen as an emergency.

Please weigh your piggy daily on the kitchen scales and step in with feeding top up if the pain and discomfort is causing loss of appetite/chewing. Hay makes around 80% of the daily food intake and you cannot control that by eye.

This guide here contains all the necessary information, including how you can improvise support care in an emergency with what you have at home or easily available: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

All the best!
