I'm sorry i havent been on recently, ive been quite busy, sorry
ive looked at the other threads, i know they are others like this but not the same situation so i thought it would be best to just post one.
basically i have four guinea pigs and two school guinea pigs who regularely come to stay. Pop was paired up with crackle from near birth until about the age 6 months but they started fighting so we separated them. we kept them alone for 1 year and a half because they werent depressed so we thought they were happy. but the school guinea pig, who was alone then, we introduced him to pop and they became inseparable. we saw how happy pop was so we decided we should get him a freind. we also persuaded the school to let us get a guinea pig for the school piggy because they were so happy with a freind. then we thought it was unfair to keep Crackle on his own so we got all three piggies a freind from a rescue. we did the boar dating and soon they all had a freind. Pop was put with Paddy, Crackle with Titch and Buster(the school piggy) with barney. Pop and Paddy are still best freinds and same with Buster and Barney but Crackle started to fight with titch so we separated them.
we found out recently that titch is blind, many people say this doesnt affect them but because he was bullied with crackle he seems so scared and bites us sometimes when we pick him up around him tummy, he does get crabby but he needs a freind who is nice and laid back because titch cant see when a guinea pig put its chin up to challenge it so when he does they think they are challenging each other and starts a fight.
we have a few options for each guinea pig. For Crackle we dont think pairing him with another boar is best as he has fallen out two times now him being the bully in each. we could neuter him but its risky and i would strongly prefer not to. if we got him a sow who was speyed would that be ok?
we could leave him on his own but we dont know if he would be happy. sadly although you might say, well * know your piggy, sadly i do not because he has been alone most of his life so i dont want him to be lonely.
with titch we think getting him a freind who is laidback is best but should we wait a little while? last weekend we did boar dating at the rescue but he got crabby with them all because he was tired from the fire works. anyway if ive missed something i will post below. thanks for taking your time to read all this and please post what you think i should do? thanks
