OK so the outside is done etc (this hutch is staying indoors) now for the inside..

i've used this special tape which is waterproof and gone round all edges and slightly up the sides in the hope it'll protect the hutch a bit longer

so.. is this correct?

add newspaper like this?
Photo0124.jpg

then a towel or puppy pads andthen my fleece (currently being washed million times with the cosy thing i made rolleyes)
how do i keep all that flat?

now what do i need?
Photo0125.jpg

i have a plastic hidey thing, a corner litter tray thing (what goes in there?) i have the cosy thing i made, a bowl, hay thingy, water bottle, a toy on order!, couple toilet roll inners, and an easter egg box.

also you see the bed compartment bit on the hutch? well what do ii put in there?

lol lots of "things" and questions!

thanks everyone just want it to be right xx>>>

I think your doing a wonderfull job! Basically you have everything you need and you can now arange it however you please :)

I would suggest you leave the dark bedroom bit mostly free, and dot hideys elsewhere. I have found the more hideys they have the more safe they will feel about jumping about between them.

Also, I would fill the litter tray with hay, or alternativly carefresh. A litter tray isnt for everyone (I no longer use mine) simply because some piggies wont pee or poo in them! :))

Thats just my opinion, others might not agree :)

As for the fleece not ruking up I'm afraid I have no idea, as ive never just had fleece on its own as one layer in a cage! To begin with it will be trial and error regarding what set up with fleece works for you, once youve figured that out it will be easier to make something like a cage liner to stop it getting messed about :)

There's no right answer and you will probably change things quite a lot as you and the pigs get used to each other.

This is what I do:

Correx (in your case tiles) underneath
Newspaper (a whole newspaper laid flat so that's lots of layers overlapping each other slightly, and more in the heavy pee areas) underneath
bath mats in key pee areas underneath
towels/nappies underneath
fleece

I hold the fleece down with the cage itself as I reverse the correx so that this is outside. In your case, you could put the fleece up the walls if you secure it with adhesive velcro (?) or perhaps fold it under the newspaper to make a pad?

I use wooden hideys, which allow the piggies to climb on top. These are in two corners, so they hold the fleece flat too. In the other two corners, I have a ceramic dish which holds their pellets and museli (I mix this up to give variety), and also the litter tray.

I have a corner litter tray like that, and use wood shavings - the piggies sit in it and mess with it a bit, but that serves to cover up their droppings. The woodshavings absorb the pee as well, and it doesn't smell as much. Lots of folk on here don't use wood shavings at all, as it can be bad for respiratory conditions, and I'd never use sawdust, but I have never had probs with wood shavings. You can buy a small pack at P@H to see how you go.

Finally, I usually have hay in either or both of a hayrack, on top of the wooden hidies, in a paper bag (brown), in a cereal box (wide) or in a heap. I mix it up a bit so that they can have fun finding it. Occasionally, I hide veggies in or under upturned things in their cage so that they can find them, and sometimes also put museli in the hay. However, in both cases, that can cause a mess. In my boar's case, he loves to hide in his hay, so he gets a massive pile in the corner and nothing else. It gets shaken out twice a day and completely changed at cage cleaning time every 5-7 days (he's on his own atm and it would/will be more frequent if you have more). He also loves fleece, and to stop him pulling it up, I have a number of small squares (source: eBay offcuts) and put one of them in his cage too. He can burrow under those to his heart's content and I'm chilled 8)

I also poop clean two or three times a day, my kids call it "poo picking" and I guess I don't need to describe that more! This means that everything gets moved and freshened up, damp but not dirty hay gets pulled out and left to dry, and fresh and dry hay are put back. Water gets checked at the same time, and refilled once a day. Piggies get picked up at the same time to check all is well.

HTH!

As I said before, there is no right way to do it so these are just ideas that you might like to adapt!

I use compressed wood pellet cat litter in my litter tray, then pile hay on top with the theory that as they pee & poop whilst munching, it will be contained. It still goes everywhere else aswell though!
Looks like you've got it all covered.

i've printed this page off and stuck it on side of cage lol my memory is so rubbish! swear all i think of is guinea pigs right now, becoming obsessed! i dream of ideas for the cage and constantlly thinking what i need to do! do they do guinea pig rehab? i need to go! my partner said he's fed up of hutch chats LOL

Thanks everyone. i'm post pics once complete xoxo

Except for:
a fleece to go in bedroom bit,
bowl,
food,
hay

and a ramp of some kind lol but at the moment they wont need to go up there will they?
also once i know the fleece thing works i may velcro it all up the sides to hold it in place
Am I Ready!?! pow-pow

also the ladys coming to do a home check... whats she going to check?

Shes just going to check that you have suitable accomodation (dont worry, as long as that meets the specific rescues size requirments i cant see anyone having an issue with it!)

She might ask a few basic things to check you know what a guinea pigs is etc, then anything else is down to the specific rescue. But theres no need to be afraid. :) You are very well prepared for a new owner!

thanks ladies, getting nervous now incase somethings not right! lol

Am completely smitten. Not long til you get them now is it! Good luck, can't wait to see them all moved in!
