Hi all,

Seeking some advice on what's happening on my new piggy's feet. I got her last week and started noticing her feet are sore/red. I suspect this is because of the first few days she was just hiding mostly so she wasn't moving much. I use fleece as the bedding. Pic taken this morning and I think it isn't as sore/red as before but I also noticed that there's kinda a scab (?) her right foot, is this bumblefoot? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would have that checked out simply because it’s been there almost a week and the right paw looks like it’s kind of open. Hope she feels better soon.

PS is the fleece wicking and urine is it staying on the surface?

Bumblefoot is swollen, open sores so the fact there is a wound there, then please do have her seen by a vet. Ensure bedding is changed regularly and always dry. Use smaller pee pads under hides and in high traffic area so you can remove them a few times a day

Yes the fleece absorbs their pee really well.

Bless her. That does look sore. Definitely get that seen by the vets. If it gets much worse then it can take a very long time to heal. Hopefully she’s moving around more now and not sat in one place too long. Good luck.

Hi all, just want to post another pics. The left foot is definitely much better now and we looked more thoroughly on her right foot, and it definitely is a scab and tbh it doesn't look too concerning? Anyone knows what this is?3A3D090D-2D6F-443E-B625-9AB70128FEF7.webp323DF954-39A7-49F7-82CE-E9AC18FEDCEF.webp

You have to be very careful with their feet as it’s very easy for bacteria to get in.

Hi

Please see a vet; once you have open, scab forming wounds that leave bleeding sores when they come up and that can eventually get in the bone, you are past DIY home treating. Please be aware that there is not a single successful treatment because of the variety of bugs that can get into the skin through tiny cracks.
Our cage care tips for guinea pigs with mobility issues also apply to bumblefoot piggies where comes to bedding care. There is still a urine residue remaining on the top of any absorbent fleece/loose bedding layer so a daily change of the surface during treatment is important, especially with any fabric of tissue bedding.
