Hello! I am in quite a panic at the moment. My piggy Asterix has always had problems with his voice - he can squeak but for the most part he seems to grunt. Just now, I went to give him a cuddle when I heard a strange noise coming from him - sort of this low popping sound, almost like when you hear bursting fireworks, only much much more muffled ofcourse. He also has always hated being picked up - when huddled closed to you he is fine, but when being picked up he will go completely tense and sometimes try to scratch his way out of your hands. When I picked him up I noticed he was doing this even more than usual, in an extremely bad mood. Other than that I haven't noticed any other changes in behavior, right now he is roaming around his cage and chatting to the other piggies (through the bars - he is currently on his own because he fights with the other piggies) with no obvious discomfort. He also is drinking his water and eating hay, so I can see no problems on that front.

My dad is hesitant about taking him to the vet - he doesn't see this as a big problem and thinks the stress of a visit to the vets will just freak Asterix out. We both want the best for our piggy so I am turning to here for advice. Thank you in advance! <3

If it's a change in his vocal sounds then it's worth taking him to the vet and it could be a sign of problems in his airways, or an infection.

Not all pigs wheek, I fostered a boy for a few months a couple of years ago for a friend and he had what we described as a broken wheeker, he could only make huffing noises instead of a wheek.

Hi! If the sound doesn't go away in within a few hours, please have him vet checked. Without hearing it, it is impossible for us to make any guesses.

If you want to post a video, you need to upload it elsewhere on a public setting and the link into your post.
A video uploading facility would cost too much considering we are funded by members donations and run by unpaid volunteers in our free time. ;)

Thank you! It stayed for about a day and it's seemed to have stopped now. I will keep a close eye on him and if the noise resurfaces or he shows any other worrying signs I will take him to the vet. Thank you so much for your advice <3
