Hi all, apologies in advance if I’m not posting in the right place as I am new here.

So Biffa has been with me for about 5 weeks, he’s a rescue piggy so previously he was quite neglected and underweight but he’s been doing really well with us.

We noticed that he had a bit of trouble eating big bits of food and picking things up and on closer inspection saw the top front teeth were completely missing. This was about a week and a half ago and we’ve already noticed the teeth have come back although they are quite small for now.

I’m wondering if I should still take him to the vet this week? Does anyone else have experience with this kind of dental issue?
It seems like he’s ok with these new teeth but I’ve heared that the bottom ones may need to be cut to even them out. I’m just not sure if I want to put him through that if he seems happy though.

Any advice appreciated 😊

Its great his teeth are growing back but please do ensure you switch from routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily so you can be absolutely certain he is still able to pick up and eat hay (80% of the daily food intake). If he isn’t eating hay properly/eating enough hay to maintain his weight and is losing weight, then please support feed him until he is able to eat hay properly for himself.

It would be wise take him to see a knowledgeable vet must to check all is well and rhey are growing back ok/no problems with the bottom incisors given they have nothing to wear against at present (the incisors are self sharpening)

Thanks for your response. Yes I will definitely weigh him and keep a close eye on him. I can see that he’s eating a good amount right now anyway.

I’ll probably still take him to the vet then, hopefully things are looking good for him since the teeth are coming through!

You can’t judge actual hay intake by eye - they can appear to be eating but sometimes not enough hence the importance of weight checks but it’s great he is eating hay independently

Thanks I’ll definitely keep a close eye on his weight while he recovers
