Hi,
My guinea pigs both have mites. I've taken them to the vet and they gave me the treatment. I followed the vet's instructions but the mite eggs are still visible in their fur. I went to the vet a second time but that didn't help and I'm not sure what to do. The guinea pigs seem completely fine but the mites are still there and I'm a bit worried😟

What treatment where you given for them?

What are you seeing when you say you still see mites in their hair? Only mites are invisible to the naked eye so I am trying to figure out what you might be seeing

I saw tiny brown dots clinging to their fur, my pigs are both piebald so they were only visible in the white patches of the fur. The brown dots are mostly near their bottoms and under their necks. The vet I saw told me they were mite eggs. every time I try to brush them out of the fur they won't come off so it can't just be dirt. Should I give them a bath?

Hi!

It sounds like hay mite eggs. Some strains can be very persistent, but it would help us really if you please told us what your vet has prescribed and how often you have applied the product. We can then suggest further treatments on that basis.

By the way, simply giving your piggies a shorthair cut and cutting off the eggs is a perhaps drastic but rather effective way of preventing a lot more mites from emerging and needing to be killed. The hair will grow back. ;)

What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
