I don’t understand, I brought her inside from her hutch to hold her (I couldn’t catch her sister.) She was fine and I was stroking her and about 1 minute later she flopped and kept flopping on to one side a freaked out and wrapped her up she stayed on one side lying down and just slowly stopped breathing within another 2 minutes she completely stopped and died. She made a few gagging noises also. It was so sudden I have no clue how her sister will cope my mum wants to give her away now too her friend who has another two female guinea pigs (I don’t think I have a choice in the matter would this be ok) she was healthy and only 2 years old. Can anyone tell me what happened thanks

I am awfully sorry for your loss.
It is hard to diagnose these things, maybe she might’ve had a heart attack? Could she have eaten anything poisonous?
It would probably be okay to give her away given she has enough space and gets along with the other two sows. Maybe you could have bonding sessions to make sure they won’t fight?

I don’t think so, and I agree we are going to see if they bond together before we give her away it is a sad situation but their is not much I can do now.

Hi and welcome

I am so, so sorry that your poor girl has suffered a fatal heart attack when you caught her. It is not your fault; it would have likely happened anytime she got stressed out. You were just unlucky that you were the one to set the spark to the invisible genetic time bomb in her body.
Please be sad and upset but don't feel guilty.

Here are our tips on how to get hold of the companion. Please let her see her mate and allow her to say goodbye.

If your mother is still insisting on giving away the other piggy once she has had time to calm down and get off her initial knee jerk reaction, please make sure that the surviving girl goes to a safe rescue where she will paired up again with another piggy and will go to a safe home. Please ensure that the companion is not just losing her home and her companion without any care about her safety or happiness.
Contact your local RSPCA or - if you are within reach - ideally Glynneath Guinea Pig Rescue for a safe place once the current lockdown has eased off.

I’m sorry for your loss. We can’t tell you why she died. But piggies have a tendency to hide their illnesses, sometimes until it’s too late. Please bring your other girl indoors, she can’t be alone outside in the hutch. You do have the option to bond your girl with another at a rescue, if your mum allows. Take care of yourself and her 💞

I’m so sorry for your loss :(
My only advice is to let the sister see the body of the piggy who just passed on so that she isn’t waiting for her to come back xx
We have just done this, thanks.

thanks for the reply, the person she wants to give her away too is her friend, she is very loving with animals and owns 2 sows herself so I hope it could work.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Must be really difficult, take care of yourself. I'm sure if you wanted you could still keep her and find her a suitable companion if you pursuaded your mother and only if you want to ofc. 💛
