Hi, I’m new to this website, I have 2 Guinea pigs, the one I’m concerned about is 6 years old this year. He has had some dental work because he broke his tooth. He has lost a lot of weight and I’m very worried about him. Is there anything to do to help him? Anything would help☺☺

Welcome and I’m sorry to hear this.

Please, if you havent already, step in and syringe feed a recovery feed (or in its absence, use mushed pellets). This is essential to stop weight loss and keep the gut functioning properly. Switch to daily weight checks and syringe feed as much as is necessary in each 24 hour period to stop weight loss. You are looking at at least 40-60ml per day.

Are his teeth ok now?

Hello and welcome
So sorry your poor old boy has broken a tooth, there is a helpful guide on the link below which shows how a broken incisor grows back over the space of 2-3 weeks. in the meantime step by helping him eat. Syringe critical care mixture or mushed pellets (soak in warm water) you can offer him a bowl of dry plain porridge oats as these are easy to eat along with cutting his veggies into tiny sticks, shedding or grating

🤞He will be back to his normal self very soon

Hi all,
Mickey had passed away tonight, he was taken to the vets this morning and we were told he has a chest infection. Later that day when I went to go pick him up, to then drop him off at the animal hospital, we were informed that Mikey only had a few moments left. I gave my permission to have him put down.
he passed peacefully and painlessly.
Thank you for your suggestions,
Mickey and sunny’s owners

So sorry that you lost Mikey. Six is a very good age and a tribute to your love and care.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.
