Hi I’m new here and I just recently got a new female piggie named Bonnie AKA bon bon and I’m kinda worried as when I got her she had a rather plump tummy and was eating a lot but when I brought her home she wasn’t eating as much and I just chalked it up to her settling in. Which I assume was right as she has now started eating alot but it took 2 days (and 3 different water bottles) for her to start drinking again but her tummy is still very plump and squishy, but I kinda feel bumps on either side of her it’s just in her stomach area. My mother told me that maybe she just likes to eat and such and I can’t take her to the vet until I get paid two weeks from now so I’m hoping it’s nothing too serious but regardless she will be going to the vet when I get paid any advice will help!

P.S I’ve included some photos so y’all can see what I mean

We can’t predict anything through a photo. You’ll just have to get her to the vet. Where did you get her from? Had she recently been with a boar? I’d also say don’t feel her tummy too much. If you suspect she’s pregnant then treat her as if she is, until you know otherwise.

Please start a vet fund now as sometimes piggies can’t wait two weeks to see a vet.

I got her from a pet store (ik ik it’s bad I will going to a guinea pig rescue to get my girl a friend) and they said she hadn’t been around a Male for a while and I’ve only felt her stomach once to make sure it wasn’t hard bc ive seen that is a indicator of bloat but it was squishy so I’m thinking she is either pregnant or she just likes food but other then her big tummy she’s doing everything normal like eating and drinking and pooping like my other piggies

How old is she roughly? And were there no other females at the shop? You need to work on getting her a friend soon, especially if she’s under four months of age.

She’s about 4 months old and no there were no other females with her as for the friend I am looking everywhere to see if there are any unbonded females to see if they would be a good match so bon bon will be getting a marlot very soon

Hello and welcome to the forum. She’s gorgeous. I hope she’s not pregnant and just a girl who like her food. 😊. We will see. 🤔

How long have you had her on her own? A first time pregnancy is on average 10 weeks but you will notice anything only in the last third or quarter, depending on the number of babies. Sows have their first season between 4-6 weeks of age. This gives you the framework for a pregnancy window.
Mis-sexing at all stages from the commercial supply breeder, treansport to the branch, back and then front of the shop is sadly much more common than shops want to make you believe. :(
