Hello all, I'm a new piggie owner (as you might see on some of my other posts) and I'm just watching Moop and Spooks having floor time.

I tried to let them have floor time yesterday, and Moop just stood there, still as you like, and Spooks ran and hid in a corner. They've been out for an hour so far today, and I just wanted to share with you their behaviours, to see if there's anything amiss? :-\ I'm a little worried.

Moop and Spooks are running around together, bashing into each other, and following each other with their nose in the others bum! Ocassionally, one of them will run into the other and the other will freak out and run off. Spooks keeps running off to the fresh food bowl leaving Moop by himself, Moop then lets out a sqeaing noise and runs round frantically...is he looking for Spooks? Moop is the least vocal one when having cuddle time, but on floor time he squeals and wheeks and chatters and generally is a noisy little boy. Both of them are making SO much noise, I just hope it's good happy noise? Both are squeaking at each other really loudly and I'm getting a littel scared that they are going to fight or something? They were only introduced a couple of days ago but they seem to live harmoniously? I can't figure out whether they are licking each others bums or biting?

They've done lots of poos and wees and I'm following them around with the Johnson's disinfectant! Hahahah, they are SO noisy!

Also, Spooks seems to be sneezing, but doesn't have any signs of a cold, no runny eyes or nose...is he having a reaction to something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hiya, if they are running around squeaking I wouldnt be too concerned, if i take one of my boys out the cgae the other squeaks because he wants him back so he may just be shouting 'oi you come back here!' lol

normal signs of a fight about to errupt is really bad loud teeth chattering, and chasing (not all chasing is bad, my boys dart around the cage at full speed one at a time touching each other on the bum like one runs around, nudges the other, the other runs around and carries on like that lol theres usually a bit of popcorning invloved too) if anybody decides to fight and they look really heated only happened once with me, i took one of my boys out for 5 mins and put him in the changing cage (one i use when cleaning them) to chill for 5 mins then put him back in with some fresh veg to occupy their minds on eating and it worked.. they havent had a fight since and that was 2 weeks ago poss more now..

btw.. they will both squeak really loud should you have a plastic bag or anything that could be the sound of food coming their way lol

for their run, if you have a really big room for them to run about sometimes it can be a bit too much at first and they will just stay in one spot as they are unsure about the space, make it a bit smaller to start off with and plenty of hiding places, boxes/blankets etc that they can hide under and feel safe. put some treats out inbetween to encourage them out and speak softly to encourage them to have a wander around and feel safe, once they get to know you, your voice and their surroundings they will be a lot more outgoing and willing to explore and be used to the house smells etc..

same with you, you'll get used to what their noises mean.. one of mine has arguments with me a supper time when he decides he's hungry he runs to the end of the cage and squeaks really really loud, so i shout to him and say '10 mins and you can have your supper' to whicjh he just squeaks even louder at lol you have to be there to see why i find it amusing, but he's a very bold character who ive had since birth so he's only ever known me :) yet his cage mate hardly ever squeaks and is really quiet and likes to hide away!

hope i helped you a little bit!

Spudnik that was really great advice thank you!

Moop is hiding at the moment under a cupboard and will NOT come out whereas Spooks is quite content in his little house in the cage. i'm tired out from chasing them! :) xx

awww, just be careful if your letting run about in a room too.. mine have a liking for the telephone wire lol

Moop is being so naughty!
He won't let me get him back in the cage, but i need to go have a shower! He's just running even if i get within a mile of him :(

if you have any chubes put it down for him to run into and clasp both your hands one over each end so he cant fall out, i find thats a good way to catch piggies if they run off lol

I think Moop must have read that reply...he won't come anywhere near the chube! Kids, eh? Well, he's more a baby! At least he's had his exercise for today...as have I! Phew!
