Boar with Two five week old female pups they are weaned. The moms are in the next cage. The moms don't even seem to care about cage separation. My boar lost his life female mate one week ago. The moms are somewhat hostile to the boar. Do not know if it is hormonal. Rescue had no history other than the to moms thrown in a pet store parking lot and babies estimated at one week. Please help me figure out my next move

I'm assuming then that your original plan was to have one herd?

Have you tried a neutral territory bonding?
I know you said they were hostile to him, but what actually happened during their time in the bonding pen?

Any bond comes down to compatibility so if the two older sows do not like him and won’t bond with him, then they will need to remain as a pair in a separate cage. The neutered boar is fine living with the two young sows.
How long ago was the boar neutered?

He was neutered by the rescue when he was 8-9 months old. I started reading all vet posts and saw that the females may be ultra hormonal right now . Currently in cages next to each other in order to get know each other. Then I want to try a smell swap. I just do not know how much to wait for the proper intro on neutral territory

How have they been hostile to the boar so far?
Have you tried to put them all together on neutral territory since the pups were weaned?

I'm sorry your lost your other sow. I assume you’ve put these two pups with him rather than leaving them with their mothers due to the loss of your other sow.

Scent swapping doesn't always work and it can have the opposite effect - it can be seen as a bit of a territory invasion and can create a hostility rather than promoting success. Living side by side is enough to allow them to get used to each others scents (although doesn’t tell you anything about whether they can bond).

The only way to know is to carry out the neutral territory bonding between all the piggies and see how things go. Perhaps give them another week and then try to put them together?

That was what I was thinking. The two little girls are with my boar and he is acting like a real father. He follows them at play time as they run everywhere in the playtime pen and lays down and sleeps next to them when they finally tire themselves out. He even popcorns. He is happy and so are they!
