So I had 2 male guinea pigs named zim&gir and they sadly both passed on the same day while me and my boyfriend were not home and we don’t know what happened to them. It was honestly traumatizing to see them dead and it broke my heart. This is a trigger warning. we found gir with his body all twisted and zim was just laying there twitching. My boyfriend and I did not know what to do because they were healthy and happy before we left and we were only gone for a couple hours. And there was people home while we were not there. So if someone has an experience like mine or knows what this mean please reach out to me.

I’m so sorry you have lost both your piggies. What an awful shock for you all. We can only guess what happened to them unfortunately. A vet could do a post mortem to try to give you an answer but it would probably be very expensive.

Is it very hot or cold where you are at the moment? Could there be a small gas leak. Have they eaten anything new? Do you have other pets in the house that could of scared them? These are just some of my thoughts. Take care. ❤️

I’m so sorry for your losses :( Sadly, it’s impossible for us to tell you how your piggies died. Only a post mortem carried out by your vet can do this but these are expensive and upsetting.

Take heart that you gave them a good life and that they were loved. (((Hugs))) x

I'm so sorry for your loss, that's awful! Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to know for sure. For two to pass away so close together I would wonder about something environmental? Was the area well-ventilated? Did they eat anything new? Is there another animal in the house that could have frightened them badly or gotten at them in some way? Could they have been injured by someone else in the house while you were gone (small kids accidentally or something like that?) Did they do any outdoor grazing or anything (unlikely in the winter, I know, but I knew someone who lost two guinea pigs very quickly after they ate grass from a lawn that had pesticide contamination from a neighbour's yard.) Again, so sorry, that's truly a heartbreaking story.

I’m so sorry you lost both your boys, sending big hugs. Take heart that your boys had a lovely life with you and that’s what counts. Their world is not measured in years and days like ours, it’s measured happiness x

Sleep tight Zim and Gir 🌈

I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your piggies. We would be simply speculating about the reason for their passing, but as they both passed so quickly, I would agree with @weepweeps thst it may have been something environmental or something that they ate. But really only a post mortem would give you a definitive answer. Please go gently as you grieve. You’ve had a terrible shock.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I've never heard of this happening.... maybe they were fighting? Are the 2 normally good together? If I were you, I'd call the vets in the morning and bring in the bodies to get checked out. I've heard of vets looking deeper into what could've happened. Sending lots of love and hugs❤

I'm so sorry to hear this, what an awful thing for you to go through, my thoughts are with you xx
