Hi!

Normal clear urine oxidises when in contact with air and dries in shades of orange and rust. The rim is always darker but in the same colour range. This is nothing to worry about; it happens with every pee puddle.

Some veg can occasionally colour the urine orange (like lettuce, pepper or carrot) or purple (beetroot).

Blood in the urine usually dries in red/pink spots that turn brown in a puddle or if there is a lot of it as a distinctly red/pink and then fully dried as brown ring around a pee puddle.

I hope that this can help you?

Hi,

I have 3 senior piggies and all of their pee dries similar on the puppy pads, their pee does oxidise fairly quickly...if you are worried about it get some white towels/fleeces/puppy pads and wait for them to pee or poop...listen for any squeals...if there's no squeals and when they move it looks relatively clear then it is oxidising...the only other thing to do is keep an eye on their regularity...which is generally easy if you do top up cleans in their main areas each day...I panicked when I first noticed their bedding was like that it took us reading into it and setting up a camera with audio in their room to see that all was well...
