ever since i got my new piggie she has tried to eat everything!

a plastic dimont of my clothes, that i couldnt get her to spit out
the dog and cats fur
she tries to eat the blanket or towels
my clothes
she has bit my fingers as well and lots more!

at the start i thought it was just because she was young and she would eventualy stop but its been a few months now and she still hasnt stoped. even if shes running around on the floor she would try to eat anything she comes across... she shouldnt be hungry as i feed her all the time, hoping she would be full and not try to eat every thing..

she espesialy likes eating the dogs furr, and hes silly enough to lie there and let her.. I try to stop her, sometimes i get worried encase she chokes on something like that plastic dimond off my clothes! i heard it crunching in her mouth and couldnt get her to spit it out :(

does anyone elses piggies do this, should i be worried?

Lois

I have 2 boys. The 10 month old has been doing this since we got him at 1 month. He is a dental piggy.

Hopefully this is not the problem with yours, but maybe his teeth should be checked?

thanks for the reply, when you say to check her teeth.. would you be able to see any thing rong with them? or would a vet only be able to know?

It depends on which teeth are the problem and how much inside the mouth you can see. With the 'chew anything and everything' boy it is hard to see his teeth because he refuses to open his mouth and when I force it open I can only really see his incisors. My other boy loves chin rubs so I can always see his teeth and tongue as he opens his mouth for these.

What happened with us is within a month of getting him Peanut Butter was chewing everything he could get his teeth on. I forced his mouth open and his bottom incisors were twice the length of Hazelnut, who was 7 months old at the time. So, I knew something was wrong and took him to the vet who diagnosed a misaligned jaw so the teeth don't meet properly to grind against each other.

Since it is not easy for us to diagnose piggy teeth problems and I firmly believe it is best to get this sorted before the piggy has trouble eating and starts losing weight a vet trip is a good idea.

thankyou for your help

i will try get a good look at her teeth myself and alo take her to see a vet, as its been goin on for months now ever since i got her :/

One of my pigs, Chirpy (RIP), used to eat my hair, the wallpaper (don't ask), towels, litter, plastic bags, and anything she was able to reach.

It never caused any problems. Since I had her as a baby and she had a URI when we got her she was hand-fed her meds and yogurt as a young one. She learned just about everything was food.

One of my pigs Sampson ate an electricity bill the other week- i was very proud of him.
