My guinea pig Lexi has had pee on her belly and bottom for months now. I havent taken her to the vet because shes been eating and running around normally. I keep having to bathe her because of it. I do use fleece and my pigs like to tunnel underneath it so I thought maybe she was laying in her pee. I made a vet appointment for next tuesday to be sure. I hate traumatizing her with baths. My other 2 piggies dont have this problem and they also tunnel.

Is she displaying any other symptoms? How is her weight? Does it smell strongly? You can give her a wipe down rather than a full bum bath each time. Hope they get to the bottom of it.

No other symptoms. I mean she smells like pee but I wouldnt say stronger than normal, but I'm not a good judge. I waited so long because she hasn't been acting unusual for her. Her weight is normal as well.

Hi!

If it is a one-off, then your piggy has likely just slept in pee puddle that has not been wicked away quickly (no bladder control during sleep).

See a vet if the urine has a very strong and stale smell or if you notice any classic symptoms of problems that characterise the onset of problems in the urinary tract like intense red pees and squeaking when peeing and pooing and if your piggy is wet underneath all the time from very frequent urination. Keep in mind that it usually takes around 5 days for any symptoms to firm up so unless your piggy is suddenly very ill and off their food (emergency), you have time to see a vet during regular opening hours over the course of roughly that time since first onset of symptoms.

I did end up taking her and the vet said she looks healthy and most likely keeps sleeping in her pee because shes burrowing under her fleece bedding.

Is Lexi a long haired piggie by any chance?
