Hi everyone
One of my 4 guinea pig Bamba, male passed away vomitting this morning.
He wasn't eating and was sleeping all the time the day before this happended so I took him to a vet. The vet said other than him not eating, no stomach bloat or teeth overgrown so he might got a cold or something. He gave him vitamin injection with a bit of anti-biotics in it.
This morning, I found strange brown stuff on the liner and picked him up to check - then he throw up brown liquid on me.
He started suffering and vomitting more brown liquid many times.
I called a vet and tried to take him but he passed away shaking soon after.
I took him to the vet anyway to check if he had disease or something and the doctor was still not sure what was happended.
Bamba was still 2 years old so was not old guinea pig.
As far as i could see, he was okay until yesterday afternoon as well. He had a bit of lettece in the morning which others also had.
I am extremely sad he died in this way but also very worried if this happen to rest of pigs as nobody knows what it was that killed him.
Others seem to be okay now except one drinking water a lot than usual.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Do be aware that guinea pigs cannot vomit so whatever was coming out was not vomit as you think of it.
They also do not get colds.
Please do keep a close eye on your other piggies. I would recommend you switch from the normal weekly weight checks and instead weigh them all daily so you can more closely monitor their health and food intake. If they reduce their hay intake (you will see weight losses) or stop eating altogether, or have any other symptoms, then you must step in and syringe feed them and see a vet.
