Hello there! This is my first post here, and I made this account to ask about some peculiar Guinea pig behavior I've been experiencing. My pig's name is Kimmy, and she's about a year old, give or take. Tri - colored abby, very cuddly and personable.
I actually bought her for my boyfriend sometime last August, and she and him have been inseparable for the past year or so. However, he transferred to a new college this year, and his apartment doesn't allow pets, so Kimmy has been in my care for the past week or so.
When my boyfriend owned her, he'd always comment about how much she loved Blind Guardian, a German power metal band we're both fans of. I thought he was just being silly and giving his cuddly friend a personality to match his own. Then he brought her over one day, and, lo and behold, she purred and popcorned and chirped happily whenever he'd put on metal. And it's not a coincidence - as soon as the music goes off she shuts up. We tried getting her to react to classical, folk, and modern music, but she only likes metal.
It's not that I'm complaining that she shares our music tastes, but I'm wondering if this is a common thing with guinea pigs. I've never heard of it before, and I've owned guinea pigs in the past and researched it a bit online. Could this be an acquired personality trait of some sort, or is there some other reason for Kimmy being a little metalhead?
Oh, and one more question (sorry for this wall of text )
She likes to give kisses. Constantly. Whenever she's on my lap or anywhere where she can reach skin, she licks and licks and licks. It's very cute and she sort of acts like a puppy, but I was wondering if this is any cause for worry -- I know that it's a possibility that she's just trying to lick the salt off, and could that hint towards some kind of Sodium deficiency? I just want my piggy happy and healthy.
Thanks!
