Hi, If anyone has any advice please tell me! I was carrying S'mores and he jumped out of my arms, he fell on the stairs but didn't land on one of them. It was maybe a 2-3 foot fall. If I see anything seriously wrong I will take him to the vet. He is eating and drinking, just laying down quite a lot. I felt around his body to see if he had any pain, and he didn't squeak anywhere. Advice, please!

I’m sure someone more experienced will come along soon but if it were me I would take him to the vet just to be sure. Guinea pigs are prey animals so will hide any illness/injuries

I would definitely get him checked by a vet. Similar thing happened to me with one of my first piggies and I felt so dreadful but I was very lucky that she had a grazed nose and lost a tooth after a couple of days (where it had broken below the gum line) and that was all. Fingers crossed your boy has been lucky too but the vet might see it fit to prescribe some pain relief/anti inflammatory as a precaution

Thank you everyone for your words! I will keep an eye on him and maybe schedule an appointment tomorrow. He isn't laying down as much now and eating and drinking just fine.

Hi, again. The vet clinic where we normally go is closed today and tomorrow. Should I contact an emergency center tomorrow?

I saw S'mores was drinking water a little weird and saw that his teeth had broken at the gum line. They are still hanging on though. I called the vet and they are scheduling an appointment for him tomorrow. Luckily piggies teeth grow fast so hopefully, he is going to be alright. I am feeding him some critical care.

Hello, I posted a different thread on S'mores's fall but he had broken his top teeth and just now one has fallen off. He is still eating fine, and I am syringe feeding him water, and critical care if he stops eating. He doesn't seem to be in pain, just uncomfortable. We are taking him to the vet tomorrow to maybe get his teeth trimmed. Anything else I should do for him?

Poor S’mores, hope everything is ok x
There is a very interesting read on the Guineapig Lynx forum
here’s the link
Guinea Lynx :: Broken Teeth
Provided there is no infection below the gum line then the incisors should grow back quite quickly. Unless the teeth are very jagged I would steer clear of any trimming as it can be done far too short then your piggie may have problems eating

Thank you! ❤ Yes... well, I am pretty sure his teeth broke at the gum line so that could cause an issue.

Definitely best to get checked out especially if they are still in the gum, sometimes they wobble about which will be painful, the tooth below the break will push the top broken bit out very soon as it grows.

Ok, I see. He is getting seen tomorrow in the evening.

His teeth should grow back quickly, in the meantime he will not be able to bite off pieces of vegetables so you will need to chop them up into small pieces of grate them for him.

Hello everybody! S'mores just came back from his vet visit. He is all healthy, just needs his teeth to grow. The other fell off last night. We will have to bring him in 5-6 months to make sure his teeth are growing back ok. He is laying down a lot, probably tired. Is this normal for them to lay down? He was digging and trying to get out on the way there...

He is doing good though, is eating some veggies right now. The vet said his heartbeat is healthy, and his lungs are nice and quiet. His cheek teeth are also good to go.
