My Guinea pig is twitching a lot

Hello everyone, I apologize for the long post. I hope someone can help! I rescued a Guinea pig almost a year ago who didn’t have any health problems other than being overweight. I have him on a strict diet to help him lose weight, as of earlier today his head has been twitching and also his right leg has been twitching. The twitches last a few minutes, stop for a few minutes and resume. This isn’t my first Guinea pig, I had one for 8 years who was also a rescue pig, he didn’t have any problems other than anxiety up until he passed away in July of last year. I don’t know what to do because it doesn’t look like a seizure but I’m really scared he’s going to get sick or die. I hope someone can help me!

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you are worried then I’d definitely say make a vets appointment. I’d also try and video them doing it to show the vet. Good luck.

Please try to take a video that you can show your vet. Ask them to check the heart in addition to considering a neurological problem - the latter are unfortunately hardly researched when it come to guinea pigs.

Thank you! I ended up getting a video and going to the vet, turns out he had a really bad ear infection but it’s almost gone!

Me too! I was so scared it was a seizure or something dangerous, he still twitches his head from time to time but it’s no where near as bad as it was before!
