So my Guinea pig ( Bo) is a very skittish, like you walk near the cage and he goes zooming. Eveytime I get to pet him he runs away, even when I offer him food. Today though, my mom woke up to feed them but Bo was laying down and not moving, my mom got super close and even tried moving his body cause she thought he was dead. He "woke" up and ate his food, after that you could see him breathing (like his chest was finally visibly moving). All my guinea pigs are rather lethargic lately (I assume cause of the weather).

I've been checking up on him every 2 hours, his breathing isnt too fast nor too slow. His lungs are breathing fine, not too fast or too slow. His poops are fine, hes eating food, his pee is normal colour, hes not going bald and his stomach isnt stiff or anything. All "normal" I think. I recently had a guinea pig pass away, and another last year. I was with them allthrought out that. Hes not acting sick like the others but hes acting really weird. Hes not running away anymore and he let's me pick him up and pet him. He still runs away from me when I'm holding him and makes a run for his house.

I dont know if he finally likes me or if hes dying. Has this ever happened to anyone? What should I keep a look out for?

I have a very skittish piggie like that too, and if she suddenly let me pet her or pick her up, Id be majorly worried too.

But if she was eating/drinking/pooping...Id have to just keep a close eye and call the vet if anything changed.

Maybe it is the heat. Frozen water bottles wrapped in fleece are a nice thing!

Please keep us updated 💕

It's natural to worry about losing a piggy after you've had one pass recently.

I'm glad that he pepped up and ate for you. However, I'd probably air on the side of caution and take my piggy to the vet if they were lethargic like that.

Are you weighing your piggies as part of their lifelong weekly weighing need? Any kitchen scale will do.

Frozen water bottles wrapped in fleece are good for keeping piggies cooled off. Change them out regularly so they stay cool. Make sure the piggies have enough room to move away from the ice on their own if they are getting too chilly.

If you are at all worried about changes in a piggy's behaviour you should take them to the vet for a check-up, but if all your piggies are less active do please make sure you are keeping them cool enough- as mentioned above a frozen bottle of water as a cool pad is a good idea, also perhaps draping a damp sheet over the cage with a fan blowing on it can create a nice cool microclimate for them.
25 degrees C/ 77 degrees F is the absolute upper limit for piggies and unfortunately every summer we hear of many deaths due to heat stroke...

Update: sorry for taking a while to respond.:(
Thank you to eveyone who responded, I added more cooling pads to his cage and he seems to be doing better !
hes eating normally and eveything. I didn't have enough money to take him to the vet when it he was acting weird ( the passing of my other guinea pig almost put me in debt of 3000 dollars) I kept monitoring and I do keep track of his weight. Its normal except it does go up and down like 4 grams
I'm will take him to the vet soon :)
I'll update again then
THANK YOU AGAIN I FELT MUCH BETTER READING THE RESPONSES!♡♡♡
