I got 2 guinea pigs today, Tweek and Percy. Tweek seems perfectly healthy, he's eating and going to the bathroom very frequently, his coat is very thick, and he's overall extremely social for a guinea pig who's just been brought home.
Percy on the other hand refused to eat for a while, which I chalked up to the fact he just came to a new home, but then I noticed a red dot on him that is definitely a wound.
I figured it's safe to assume another pig bit him in the pen he was at in the petshop, but just now as I'm giving him some lap time, I noticed the outside skin of his ears is sort of like, flaky?
it's almost like dandruff.
I also noticed more red dots and now I don't know whether I should be concerned or not.
I'd really appreciate anyone's help.

It’s always a good idea to let them settle in for a week - no handling, just cleaning and changing/topping up hay. The other thing we recommend for new piggies is be seen by a vet if not from a reputable rescue. So, given your observations, I would do that.

You should also double check they’re both either boars or sows. Piggy shops can missex or sell pregnant ones. Read the guides linked below.

thanks for replying, I'll give them some space for a while but the whole vet situation is hard for me since I live in Lebanon, even the best places here have no clue how to take care of animals asides from cats and dogs

I’m short to hear that. Would you be able to try and find a vet who may be interested in learning about them?

In the meantime you really need to sex them. Hopefully they’re the same. If not then you will have to separate immediately (they can live side by side) and (possibly) prepare for pups.

You are looking for:
  • The presence/absence of a penis ridge above the slit, on the lower belly
  • The presence/absence of a fleshy seal just inside the slit
If you can post clear photos we may be able to help you. But it’s best you learn to do it yourself as well.

I’m sorry I didn’t post the links, I fell asleep while editing my post 😂
