Hello! My little guinea pig Chili is about 5 years old now, & for the past three days we've noticed he seems to have a big bathroom issue. I was cleaning his cage, and I noticed there was literally no poop, and then all of a sudden there's just a giant ball of poop in the corner where he was sitting. (I'm sorry this is going to be so gross), and so we checked it out, & turns out there was about 3 giant clumps of poop just stuck in his butt. It was like that 3 days ago, so we cleaned him up and he was fine the rest of the night. Next day was the same with the poop, so we cleaned him up again. And yet again today, it's the same thing. We thought it may have been something he ate, but nothing we feed him has done this in the past and we've fed him the same fruits and veggies since we got him. We were planning on taking him to the vet soon (considering we don't have the money to afford the giant vet bill), but is there anything we should try at home to fix the problem?

I think you should have your piggy vet checked, sooner rather than later.
I think he either has diarrhoea which can be masked by the clumped poo.
Or it's semi impaction, eiether way he must be feeling very uncomfortable.
Ideally he should be seen before Christmas.
Can you let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome!

Please have your boy vet checked and please switch from weighing once weekly to daily at the same time.

If your vet comes back with the diagnosis of impaction, which affects mainly older boars, then please take to read and watch the information in our guide. You will find it very helpful. Unfortunately, while you can manage mild impaction with a very careful diet (advice on that in the guide), it is incurable, will gradually get worse and means that you will need to perform daily check-ups and cleaning care for the remainder of his life.
We, like any other online place, simply cannot and are legally not allowed to diagnose unseen and without the necessary qualifications and replace a hands-on vet consultation.
There can be other issues that can cause these symptoms that need to be excluded first. It can be a digestive problem.
We can only tell you when you need to see a vet and help you with what avenues to pursue to make the best out of any vet care available.

Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

Please feed as much hay as possible; it should make over 80% of the daily food intake. This is even more important for impacted boars, as it is the poos that get eaten again for a second run through the guts that get stuck. Be careful with veg and if possible eliminate all fruit from the diet. Peppers and fresh herbs make a good replacement in terms of vitamins and trace elements. A very regular limited, but still balanced diet is best for a guinea pig with impaction.

I agree with the above posts. It does sound like impaction which can be a problem particularly for older boars. Please have him seen by a vet.
