Hi all I have been giving my male antibiotics since last Friday I have checked him today and there is still puss coming out of him also I have been seringeing the medication into his mouth but he is managing to spit the liquid out what should I do also he has an appointment next Tuesday to see the vet.

Hi there so isn't he eating at all? Or just spitting the medicine out? 💙

He had a hernia operation and it got infected the puss is coming from his stomach he hasn't healed properly I noticed that he still has a hole in his stomach through him pulling his stichers out the vet I saw said it was ok and gave me a week's medication I started it last Friday and found out he's been spitting the medication out

Please see the above link it may help but it is stressful when they won't take their meds 💙

If there is still pus coming out then he needs to go back to the vet.

For syringing medication, hold your pigs head up with one hand and place the syringe tip around 0.5-1 cm back in the mouth. Then inject around 0.1ml at a time. Perhaps follow each little bit with a high value treat.

Hi and welcome

Please contact your vets as soon as possible.

Is our boy still able to swallow? You need to insert the syringe from the side in the gap between the front and back teeth and more deeply than you may have done. Baytril (which I assume your vet has prescribed) is the most foul tasting medication there is - but please don't try it yourself; even a little will make you very ill.
Our medicating guide shows you how to hold and medicate/feed uncooperative piggies: All About Syringe Feeding and Medicating Guinea Pigs with Videos and Pictures

You also need to step in with feeding support asap. You can use mushed up pellets as a bridging feed until your recovery formula arrives but you will need to cut off the syringe tip in a certain place so the much tougher pellet fibre can pass through. Also offer water. You can find information on how much and how often to feed, how to prep the syringe and the pellet mush etc. in the same guide. We have made it as comprehensive as possible.

Here is our emergency guide with more general advice re. out-of-hours vets etc. which ou may also find helpful in view of it being a bank holiday: Emergency and Crisis Care as well as Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

Please take the time to read the guides. They will hopefully answer many of our practical how-to questions.
