I don’t know if it’s constantly erected, but the penis is out of it’s ‘cage’. Everytime I look I see it out and its not pink anymore. It has been damaged and is very dry. I don’t know what caused this or if this happens with other piggies.

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you could post a picture that would be great. My first thoughts are it could be a build up of dirt and debris getting stuck under the foreskin.

Is your boar old? Does he have arthritis that can cause them to stop being able to clean themselves down there.

I would get it checked out by a vet as you say it now looks different and is damaged. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Hi

If your boy has prolapsed penis, please see your vet; this is a problem that can be fixed comparatively easily with just a couple of stitches. You also need to see the vet if you notice signs of infection with a prolapsed/not fully retracted penis pouch ('cauliflower willy'). Both need regular cleaning and care as they are much more prone to infection.
Without we cannot tell you what you are dealing with but in any way, I would strongly recommend to have your boy vet checked.

Here is our information on what to look out in terms of comon boar issues and how to keep the boys clean:

Thanks for the replies. I will go to the vet and keep you guys updated on what has caused it, in case someone with similar problems comes across this thread!

Have you had a look at the coloured link with both penis pictures as well as the picture of a cauliflower willy?
If the penis is not retractable, it could also be caused by a semen rod (hardened semen fluid) in the penis shaft; if they are not removed carefully, they can cause a nasty infection in the penis shaft, so a vet visit is a good idea. make sure that you have the guide link with you in case your vet needs to have a look to know what to look out for.

Hi

Please see a vet; this looks sore and inflamed; he will need an antibiotic. Ask them to check whether there is a semen rod stuck in the penis shaft or whether he has a hardened shell of smegma build up around his penis.

Semen rod

Smegma (the white stuff; normal build up requiring gentle removal)

If a hair has got around the penis tip and is strangling it, it will go blue and then go necrotic from lack of oxygen/blood supply.

Please do not wait and see a vet! This can be potentially very serious.

I will go, just waiting for my car to be done at the dealership. I hope to get it back tomorrow morning. Also, his pee is white? Do I have mention this on the phone when I call?

Hi

White means that he is excreting excess calcium. That is a normal process. Only if there are gritty, sharp bits in the puddle (crystals) do need to worry. You may want to review your diet if your piggies have lots of white pees.

Do you have a friend who could take you to the vet if your car is not ready? Your boy should really see a vet sooner than later.

Ouch. That does look very uncomfortable for him. Good luck at the vets. 🤞

It was build up dirt indeed! As Wiebke said. Normally the piggies will clean it themselves. The vet fixed it very quickly and my guinea pig wasn’t scared at all :)
Aah that’s great all sorted and he’s feeling more comfortable then! :)
Yes I’ve got a boar that keeps himself sparkling, but my other boy Jasper has cauliflower willy, as well as being rather lazy downstairs and leaves it all to me instead! We’re due a clean today actually, not a pleasant job I have to admit! 🤢:))
So pleased you got your little man feeling better :)

My Rainbow Piggy Handsome Silver Fox Christian always left it to me to clean his willy :vom::vom:. He did have an excuse as he had arthritis in his spine. This was the sperm rod I had to clear (very gently!) one day:yikes::yikes:HUGE Sperm Rod.webp
