idk where else to post this. so i was attempting to bond two guinea pigs, they had been bar-mates for a few weeks, and i tried to introduce them inside a spacious guinea pig pen. they ended up fighting a bit and without thinking i put myself in the middle of it, as i didnt want any piggies to get hurt (i did have the towel and everything prepared but in the moment i just panicked). anyways, butterscotch ended up biting me and latching on for a good 30 seconds before i could get him off (i was trying to be gentle so it took a bit). the bite bled pretty bad for a few minutes and after about 25 minutes the area is really swollen and kind of numb. realistically, is this something i should be concerned about or will it go away? (i washed with soap and water) p.s. he didnt mean to bite, i think he was just very overwhelmed. ive been sitting here petting him and he’s not acting violent towards me whatsoever.

Ouch. Best thing if the wound is deep is to see a doctor.

I’m sorry to hear the bonding has failed.

Hi

I am so sorry but bare hands around a frightened/fighting piggy on overload are not a good idea. It also means that the bond has failed. :(

Please see your doctor if you are having issues with numbness or movement. Instinctive deep defence bites in riled up piggies that instinctively react to any movement can do permanent damage to a hand and can also lead to an infection; it depends on what the bite hits; piggies always have some gunk in their mouths. Soap and water is not a disinfection. You my need a check of the hand function and will need proper disinfection and even an antibiotic.

Here is more information on the various 'biting' functions: " Biting" And What You Can Do (Biting, Tweaking, Nibbling and Nipping)
