Hello everyone.
I'm a Newby.
I'm in need of some help please. I have a female guinea pig who is around 5 year's old. I got her from a family members friends who wanted a home for her.

Last week I was getting ready to clean out my guinea pigs cage. When I noticed that she tryed to run away like she normally does . I found out that she couldn't walk she was dragging her back legs. I took her out and put her in her carry cage. The plastic type. I kept her warm. Until I changed her cage. As I went to check what was wrong. I saw her back leg behind her.
Ever since that day I've been sitting her in bath of warm bath of water in wales washing up bowl. She was lieing in her pee and poop.so now I do this every day. I have a appointment with the vet's at animals trust on Thursday. But I'm worried about what will happen to her. From what I can understand it's free consultation. But have to pay for treatment or investigation.
My problem is. What if I haven't got any money on that day. I will be hoping for them to do her nails while I'm there. I can pay for them. It's just what happens next as my hubby is the only one who has benifits. I don't work but I still don't have benifits except what they call contribution of less than £25

Please could anyone tell me what the problem would be on my girl.
Thank you everyone

Kind regards

Hi!

Back leg paralysis is not at all uncommon in older guinea pigs but can have very different causes. That is why a vet trip is always recommended.
Here are our care tips and information for guinea pigs with mobility problems: Looking after guinea pigs with limited or no mobility

If you do not have the money on the day, please contact the clinic before the appointment. You are not the only one caught out badly by the pandemic.
