One of my friends has reached out to me because one of her guinea pigs isn’t looking all too great! He isn’t eating, and is coughing and seems to be gasping for air. She is thinking that it has something to do with her mouth or head or maybe a respiratory issue. I think she should get him into a vet ASAP but none of the nearby vets are open as it is a Saturday morning here. I should add it is almost winter where I live, and today is quite chilly, and her piggies live in an outdoor hutch. I am very worried for her poor little piglet, and was wondering if any body knows the best thing to do in this situation, and what could be up with him. Here’s a photo of him (not that it really reveals much about his health):

Poor thing... I agree that it sounds like an urgent vet visit is needed, though I know that not all places have access to 24-hour care with vets that are competent with guinea pigs. I would bring him inside and get him to a vet ASAP. Unfortunately, respiratory infections can kill and pigs generally do not show symptoms until they are really unwell, so time is really important here.

I don't know how it works were you are but all vets (in the UK) must provide 24hrs care - this doesn't necessarily mean at their premises but there are out of hour provides they use. Is there something like that? I'd be ringing asap and asking for their advice! Hope little one is ok!
