So me and a friend of mine has a 5 1/2 year old guinea pig that had recently started limping. He hasn't moved much and we need help what could be the problem, they will try and take them to the vet later tomorrow. the little piggie appears physically okay though.
The symptoms the guinea pig had were
- Lethargic
- his right hind leg is limp
- Loss of appetite
- Can't sleep comfortably
- Runny nose
- More eye crust
- Squeaks in pain at some times
- Has trouble getting up
- Shakes in place
- More foot jerking
- Irregular pooping cycles
- Hind hip bones are protruding
- Loss weight rapidly
Everything else like his temp, coat, eyes and ears are perfectly fine so far. does anyone know what this could be?

Edit
she had also said he was breathing heavily and sneezes abnormally a lot.

Hi,

I'm sorry he's having issues. By what you're describing, he really needs to see a vet ASAP. Is there any way you could get him to a vet sooner? I hope he's okay 💕 🤞

Hi, I would take him to a vet ASAP especially with his age as they can go down hill fast unfortunately...it could be a many of things as he has a wide range of symptoms so only a vet would be able to get to the bottom of it...just make sure he has everything he needs around him and comfy warm things to lie on...personally I'd move some of his hay and treats and pellets (when he has them) next to him and his water or veg soaked in water if you are cautious about putting water next to him...and just to make sure he's clean as he may not be moving too much so he may be squishing a few bits of poop to himself...

Please suggest your friend urgently steps in and syringe feeds him mushed up pellets or recovery feed. He will be losing weight due to reduced hay intake so stepping in with syringe feeding if weight loss gets to 50g is essential
He will need to be weighed every day so the amount of syringe feed can be adjusted to stop the weight loss.
He also urgently needs to see a vet.
The guides below offer further information
I hope he is ok
