IS it normal for pigs to eat newspaper ? my 2 year old and our 3 month old one are both chewing newspaper, from under the bedding hay.
you think all the food and bedding hay, and eating hay, they have to dig up the papers..

Some piggies are chewers, some aren't.... Pitch and Putt were newspaper shredders, it was so annoying you'd get them a nice clean cage then hear this rip and the paper was everywhere being pulled up :)) bless them, they were so funny every time after a clean they'd do it.

Its perfectly normal for piggies to eat newspaper etc. When we stuff brown paper bags with hay usually the brown paper bag has a rear exit within a short time before they start on the hay. Piggies seem to like the destruction of bags and boxes. Possibly would be careful of the colour supplements - unsure as of the toxicity of the colour print but as far as we know normal newspaper ink isnt toxic to piggies - unless anyone else on the forum knows more?

thanks but i never never use any supplements. just the daily paper.

little fred likes to eat the newspaper, but only after ive just cleaned them out, he also looks straight at me when he's doing it, as if to say "HA! now i'm wrecking it again"

I keep empty cardboard tubes from the middle of kitchen roll, cut them open along the whole length (so pigs don't get their heads stuck) and stuff them with hay. They really like chewing the cardboard, it keeps some eating hay from getting weed on & might give your pigs something else to try chewing rather than newspaper. I know some people are worried about the inks especially coloured inks in the newspaper.
