Evening all,

I am in need of advice......the story so far!

Duracell and Guinness are my male guinea pigs, i had them off of my friend who was moving and couldnt take them with her. I was told that they were 6 months old and had always been together. When i got them 4 months ago i got them a bigger cage as their one was tiny and they seemed happy together. Recently Duracell has been mounting Guinness and he (Guinness) wasnt happy about this but carried on as normal. It came to the point on Friday that i could see and hear them teeth chattering at each other so i rushed round to another lovely friend who had a hutch i could have......i seperated them. No over the weekend i have had them in the run together to see if with more space they would be alright and bond again. On putting them in their run tonight Guiness had pinned Duracell to the floor and fighting. I seperated them and out Duracell back in his hutch. I have to be honest if i were Guiness i would of lost my temper long ago!

On looking at Duracell he has a wound though not bleeding, though it has broken the skin. He is now teeth chattering at me but i presume he is protecting himself after the fight?

Now should i take him to the vet? and should i consider neuteuring or just accept that they wont get on again?

Thanks in advance for your advice and i gotta admit not a experience i want to go through again!

Neutering guinea pigs only takes away the abitility to make babies but won't impact on the temper. So unless you are thinking about pairing each up with a girl (which is usually a very stable pairing), it's useless.

You'd better keep them apart, but preferably where they can still interact through bars or mesh. Once blood has been drawn, boys will fight again. Yours are at one of the most tricky ages.

I am sorry, it is hard to accept. You'd better clean that wound with saline solution (1 tsp of salt mixed into 1 pint of boiled, cooled water). Whether you need to see the vet is up to you.

Thanks for advice....i was told that having them neutured, it would calm them down towards eachother.....i will keep them seperate and thank you so much! x

hi was just wondering if its ok to let my boys playfight with each other, there seems to be no real aggression its just play scuffiling ?
